Byotrol launches next-generation CHEMGENE range into UK forensics, laboratory and human health markets

Byotrol has confirmed that the long-standing CHEMGENE brand will be the next range to benefit from a transition to the company’s next-generation surface technology, which was launched in 2022.

CHEMGENE has been validated and used for many years by organisations and professionals in forensics, laboratory, and human health markets to disinfect and protect a wide range of surfaces and equipment.

The new range of CHEMGENE MEDLAB Multi-Surface Disinfectants which launches in September 2023, is the result of several years of intensive research and development conducted by Byotrol’s in-house team of hygiene experts and further tested by independent organisations.

To complement the innovative new formulation, CHEMGENE has undergone a significant branding update, which celebrates its innovation within the category and signifies the start of a new era for CHEMGENE, as the portfolio refocuses on biocidal products.

Exceptional Antimicrobial Efficacy, Without Damaging Delicate Equipment

Supported by a robust data pack, CHEMGENE is effective against bacteria, yeasts, fungi, and viruses with working dilution rates of just 1%. Microbiological testing has been conducted to the latest European efficacy test methods for Product Type 2 (PT2), including stringent medical test standards that challenge products to perform in high soil, mimicking the presence of blood and other organic fluids on equipment and hard surfaces during disinfection.

Crucial to human healthcare organisations, CHEMGENE MEDLAB Multi-Surface Disinfectants are effective at just 1% dilution against the opportunistic group of ESKAPE bacteria, consisting of Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacter species, which all exhibit multi-drug resistance and virulence.

Also highly effective against viruses, the new CHEMGENE MEDLAB formulation has passed the required tests against Norovirus, Adenovirus, and Vaccinia virus, which is the accepted surrogate for all enveloped viruses which include Coronavirus, HIV, Hepatitis B & C, and Herpes Simplex virus.

The new CHEMGENE MEDLAB Muli-Surface Disinfectants are effective against bacteriophages at just 1% and in only 5 minutes, a significant improvement versus the previous CHEMGENE HLD4 formulation.

CHEMGENE MEDLAB has also proven to be effective against Candida auris, an emerging fungus that presents a serious global health threat and has shown to be multi-drug resistant, difficult to identify by hospital laboratories, and easily spread in healthcare settings.

After extensive testing at Byotrol’s in-house laboratories in Chester, CHEMGENE has been confirmed as compatible with a range of materials including stainless steel, mild steel, copper, aluminium, nylon, acetal and rubber.

Protecting The Credibility Of Criminal Evidence

CHEMGENE is currently utilised by many of the UK’s 40 police forces, and key to the new formulation is its efficacy in bio-hazard conditions, such as challenging crime scenes – and on equipment used by the police forces and other emergency services. The University of Chester has tested CHEMGENE’s effect on DNA to confirm that Byotrol’s customers can continue to rely upon CHEMGENE’s ability to prevent the cross-contamination of DNA on equipment used by the UK police forces.

Taking Steps Towards A More Sustainable Future

During development, Byotrol’s supply chain team worked diligently with suppliers to source plastic packaging which contains over 30% recycled plastic content, and cardboard cartons which are 100% recycled cardboard. All packaging can be recycled after use, for further environmental benefits.

The ingredients used in the new formulation are biodegradable and the active substances are approved for use according to the UK and EU BPR Article 95 list for PT2, in preparation for the future of the range and the ongoing changes to biocidal regulations in the UK and EU.

‘The launch of Byotrol’s new CHEMGENE range should be reassuring for our commercial partners in forensics, human healthcare, and laboratory organisations’, commented Vivan Pinto, Byotrol’s Chief Executive Officer, ‘the team has been exceptionally driven to complete the testing necessary to meet not only the legally required standards for products but engaging with end-users throughout the development of the products to ensure they meet the real-life demands of these challenging specialist industries.’

Byotrol offers its customers the knowledge and confidence to create effective bio-security strategies that incorporate the most appropriate and effective antimicrobial products, supported by easy-to-follow training and support. Detailed product information, how-to guides, and in-use signage are available to customers and end-users, by registering at byotrol.com and accessing a new customer portal, Byotrol customers can improve biosecurity and compliance within their organisations.
