This year’s London Vet Show was another landmark event for us at Byotrol. We were thrilled to introduce our new PROCESSUS range of products designed to revolutionise instrument decontamination in the veterinary and animal health industry. Our team had the opportunity to engage directly with customers and end-users from the industry, gaining invaluable insights and feedback.
Learning From Our Target Audience
The London Vet Show provides us with an unparalleled platform for interaction with veterinary nurses, veterinarians, and other industry professionals. During the show in 2022, we identified that the instrument decontamination category was confusing and that end-users were frequently making errors in dilution, using products in the wrong order, and using products in ways not advised on the product labels. Through these honest and valuable conversations, we gained a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by vet nurses in daily operations and it led us to strategically review our own instrument decontamination products and challenge ourselves to address these potential risks on behalf of the industry with some strategic portfolio changes.
The launch of PROCESSUS marked a significant milestone in our commitment to innovation and excellence. Our new 360-degree instrument decontamination system is crafted with cutting-edge technology and is tailored to meet the unique demands of veterinary professionals, ensuring efficiency, safety, and reliability in instrument decontamination. Having taken on board the feedback from our target market last year, we relaunched our offering at the show, introducing our new brand PROCESSUS, confident of having made significant improvements to provide our customers with market-leading performance, and products that genuinely answer the demands of the challenging veterinary industry.
We conducted an anonymous survey among veterinary nurses to gauge their training needs for instrument decontamination. The results were enlightening, revealing that 38% of respondents didn’t feel adequately trained on the products they use in practice daily. To assess if the correct contact times were being adhered to during the process, we asked veterinary nurses to confirm the average time taken to complete instrument cleaning and disinfection prior to sterilisation. The results showed that 14% of respondents completed this in under 15 minutes, well below the directed contact times stated on manufacturer guidance. This feedback is crucial for our ongoing development and improvement of PROCESSUS and will provide clear direction for the development of future training resources. 71% of respondents didn’t have time to begin the instrument decontamination process immediately after surgery, confirming the requirement for a pre-clean product to prevent the drying of organic matter on the surface of instruments.
Key Learnings for Our Team:
Understanding User Needs: Once again, our discussions on the stand with distributors, corporate veterinary groups, and rehoming charities highlighted what is important to our customers and where we should focus our time and resources.
The Importance of Education: Direct discussions with end-users highlighted the importance of user-friendly training and support at all levels of animal health organisations. Collaboration between manufacturers of biocidal products, distributors, and end-users is crucial for the collective improvement of compliance in our industry, and we’re excited to be at the forefront of those discussions.
Future Innovation: The insights gathered will fuel our continued innovation, ensuring that our products not only meet but exceed the evolving needs of the veterinary community.
Commitment to Sustainability: Like our team at Byotrol, our customers are actively trying to improve the sustainability of their organisations. We have made incredible progress over the last 12 months, but our sustainability journey is far from complete. As thought leaders in our industry, we need to maintain our momentum and stay committed to our goals, sharing our learnings with customers, end-users, and the wider industry for the benefit of our planet.
Our experience at the London Vet Show has been immensely valuable. It’s clear that there’s a growing demand for advanced, reliable decontamination solutions in the veterinary sector. With PROCESSUS, we’re poised to meet this demand and continue our journey of innovation and excellence.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who visited our stand, shared their experiences, and provided feedback.
